Life of the Bride

The girls in Palu usually marry between the ages of fifteen and eighteen. When the girl is older than twenty, she is considered a "left over." The girl’s life dramatically changes after her marriage. She must patiently bear the burden of the entire family. She has no right to whine or complain. She is the first to wake up with the call of the rooster and the last to go to bed. She is the one who helps the family members if they need anything. She also helps the children to get dressed and washes their faces and hands. In the same way, she helps the elderly family members. Sometimes the bride is reprimanded for being late, but she bears her cross patiently with her mouth closed and with a veil covering her face. She can only quietly talk to her husband and children.

The people in Khoshmat have always valued humbleness and obedience. The secret of large and happy families lies exactly in these values. Science and education have nothing to do with this. The power of faith and the voice of conscience make the person stay obedient. A sense of both shame and dignity makes the person be patient and keep silent. These are important values that the families of Khoshmat, Palu and the entire Armenian nation are based on.
